Life Skills Therapy in Drug Rehab
At Orchid Recovery Center we offer a variety of different therapies; one of the most beneficial, in my opinion, is the Life skills therapy. Life skills therapy in drug rehab helps address the challenge of successful treatment by generating capabilities and comfort in areas that might have suffered during a period of drug addiction, self-neglect and seclusion from others.
Life skills therapy in Drug Rehab is really helpful for women who have been living in their addiction for a long period of time. Using drugs and alcohol usually ends up becoming the main coping mechanism for dealing with the pressure and anxieties of everyday life. When women initially come in the Orchid Recovery Center, meeting the usual challenges of daily life without being able to use drugs or alcohol can seem frightening and overwhelming. In life skills therapy, they aid recovering women in doing simple responsibilities such as going grocery shopping, cooking and preparing meals and going out and doing different activities.
With life skills therapy in drug rehab, women learn valued life-skills and develop close bonds with other recovering women. In a women’s treatment center you learn to work with other women and trust each other. For most women, we weren’t really the best of friends with other women when we were drinking or using so it’s a good chance to connect with women just like us. Besides helping women form long-lasting friendships with one another, the life skills therapy in drug rehab also teaches orchid clients how to cook the nutritionally supportive meals essential for the best health. The Orchid’s staff teaches clients in how to choose and prepare these supportive meals. When we teach clients how to eat healthy and help them with good diet plans, they can make better eating choices for life. We believe that the good nutrition geared to a woman’s exclusive nutritional needs is necessary to an effective and continued recovery from drugs and alcohol.
During the life skills therapy process we also feel that women should learn that you can have fun when you’re sober, too. We take them to do different activities and show them that you can enjoy yourself without having to use drugs or alcohol. For me, getting taken to women’s meetings and being able to connect with other women is what helped me the most in my recovery. At Orchid they help you to realize that female friendship is an influential foundation of happiness and support for sustained sobriety.
Life skills therapy in drug rehab can certainly help you in more ways than one. A big part of getting sober for us is just learning how to live again like normal functioning members of society. When I first got sober, it was hard for me to do normal everyday things because for so long I was living and breathing only to get drunk and high. We forget what it’s like to cook, clean, pay bills, be a good friend or family member and just all around be a responsible adult. Life skills therapy in drug rehab at The Orchid Recovery Center is the type of therapy that I think anyone can benefit from.
